Osun APC chair charges Political office holders to identify with constituents

State of Osun chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, has stressed the need for both elected and appointed political functionaries in the state not to alienate themselves from the people, adding that there are lots of advantages in always identifying with the people.

Famodun who stated this in a statement issued by his Media Consultant, Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo today observed that it was improper for privileged political functionaries to choose abandonment of the people after they might have clinched their desired appointments.

The party chairman disclosed that experience over the years has shown that some politicians willfully and willingly cut themselvesĀ  off from the electorate who were instrumental to their new status by moving to eye-brow areas of their towns or cities.

He also hinted that some political appointees were fond of changing the sim cards of their mobile phones in order to make their accessibility an impossible utopia to their constituents.

The Igbajo-born APC state chairman also noted that observation has shown that another set of political functionaries are fond of going about in tinted vehicles to shield their identities away from the people.

He stated that the hallmark of any political leader should be constantly keeping of an open door with sufficient endowment of empathy with the people.

Famodun said, one needs not be a soothsayer to conclude that some political leaders get into avoidable problems because of their alienation from the people.

He disclosed that some political leaders who are professing to be following the political footsteps of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the first Premier of the defunct Western Region are mere pretenders as their conduct in and outside political offices has nothing in common with that of the late sage.

According to Famodun: “The late Chief Awolowo was living at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, throughout the period he was in the saddle of government.

“The late sage glaringly lived among the commoners who were always in tow to come to his aid anytime members of the reactionary party wanted to take undue advantage of him through their connection at the centre.

“The late Chief Adekunle Ajasin too did not abandon the people when he became the governor by choosing to live in their midst”, he disclosed.

Famodun also went down memory lane further by highlighting the modest life style of Chief Bisi Akande and Chief Kayode Jakande who were former governors of Osun and Oyo states respectively.

The party chairman recalled that Pa Jakande was all the while living among the people at Ilupeju area of Lagos throughout the period he was in the political leadership affairs of Lagos State.

He disclosed that himself chose to live with the people at Igbona area of Osogbo in order to identify with the people.
Famodun stated that what is in vogue now among the political functionaries is for common local government chairmenĀ  to move their habitation to the eye-brow area of the city.

He reminded the political functionaries that there is need for them to live with the people as abandoning them may send a wrong signal to their supporters
